A Journey That’s About So Much More Than the Destination

There are holidays you take…

Then there are journeys you accomplish.

The Camino de Santiago is one of the world’s great walking journeys—a centuries-old pilgrimage through the beautiful countryside, villages and towns of northern Spain, following the famous yellow arrows towards Santiago de Compostela.

Over five days, you’ll walk the final 100+ kilometres of the Camino from Sarria to Santiago, passing through rolling green countryside, peaceful forests and small Galician villages along the way.

But the Camino isn’t really about how many kilometres you walk.

It’s about the conversations along the trail, encouraging each other when the legs get tired, stopping for coffee in a tiny village, collecting stamps in your pilgrim passport and experiencing that incredible feeling when you finally walk into Santiago together.

It’s challenging, rewarding and wonderfully simple—just putting one foot in front of the other each day. And at the end, you’ll be able to say: I walked the Camino.

You’re Ready for a Challenge

You don’t need to be an athlete — just prepared to train, walk each day and give it a go.

You Love the Little Moments

Think Camino markers, village cafés, pilgrim stamps and unexpected moments along the way.

You Love Small Group Travel

Walk with LWT women, encourage each other along the way and celebrate together in Santiago.

The Camino is a journey many people dream about.
But walking it is something else entirely.

There’s something special about the simplicity of the Camino—walking each day, following the yellow arrows, sharing conversations along the trail and watching the kilometres slowly count down. Somewhere along the way, it becomes about much more than reaching Santiago.

Welcome to the Camino
A journey you’ll never forget.

From Sarria to
Santiago de Compostela

Bienvenidos! Welcome to Spain and the beginning of your Camino adventure.

Your journey starts in Santiago de Compostela, the historic capital of Galicia and the destination you’ll ultimately return to on foot after completing the final 100 km of the Camino.

This evening, meet your local leader and your fellow Ladies Who Travel companions at a welcome meeting at 6 pm. Afterwards, head out together for an included welcome dinner — the perfect opportunity to get to know the women you’ll be sharing this very special journey with.

Tomorrow, you’ll travel to Sarria and prepare to take your first steps along the Camino.

🛏️ Accommodation: Hotel Alda San Carlos or similar

🍽️ Meals: Dinner

After breakfast, leave Santiago behind and travel by private vehicle to Sarria, the starting point for your walk along the final section of the Camino de Santiago.

On arrival, join your leader for an orientation walk through town and begin soaking up the atmosphere of the Camino. You’ll also receive your Pilgrim’s Passport (Credencial), which you’ll carry with you and have stamped along the route — an important part of completing the Camino and receiving your certificate when you reach Santiago.

The remainder of the day is yours to explore Sarria, relax and prepare for the walking adventure ahead.

Tomorrow morning, the walking begins!

🛏️ Accommodation: Hotel Duerming Villa de Sarria or similar

🍽️ Meals: Breakfast

Today you take your first real steps on the Camino de Santiago.

Leaving Sarria, follow a mostly asphalt route through the beautiful countryside of Galicia, passing chestnut and oak forests, small farms, villages and wheat fields along the way.

Keep your Pilgrim’s Passport handy, as you’ll begin collecting the stamps required throughout your journey. Along the route, you may like to stop at places such as Santiago de Barbadelo or the church of San Fiz de Reimondez, and you’ll pass small farms selling local produce including bread, cheeses and jams.

After approximately 25 km of walking, arrive in Portomarín, where you’ll rest for the evening after completing your first full day on the Camino.

Walking today: Approx. 25 km
Elevation gain: Approx. 750 metres
Walking time: Up to 9 hours

🛏️ Accommodation: Hotel Villajardin or similar

🍽️ Meals: Breakfast

Today, continue your Camino journey from Portomarín to Palas de Rei, following gravel paths through the forests and fields of rural Galicia.

Pass through the small villages of Gonzar, Ligonde and Castromaior, where a short detour brings you to the impressive Roman ruins of Castro de Castromaior. Along the route, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to stop for coffee, a meal or snacks before making the gradual climb to Sierra de Ligonde and descending towards Palas de Rei.

This evening brings something a little different. Your leader will introduce you to Queimada, Galicia’s traditional flaming drink with roots in the region’s Celtic past — said to ward off evil spirits!

Walking today: Approx. 27 km
Elevation gain: Approx. 750 metres
Walking time: Up to 9 hours.

🛏️ Accommodation: Hotel Duerming Palas de Reis or similar

🍽️ Meals: Breakfast

Today is your longest walking day on the Camino, as you make your way from Palas de Rei to Arzúa across undulating terrain.

Your first major stop is Melide, one of the larger towns along this section of the Camino and particularly famous for its food. Here, regroup and enjoy an included traditional polbo a feira lunch — Galicia’s famous octopus dish. If you have room, you might also like to try melindres, the little glazed doughnuts for which Melide is known.

After lunch, continue towards Arzúa, crossing the Iso River and tackling a series of short but steep slopes before reaching your destination for the evening.

If 30 km feels like enough of a challenge for one day, there is some flexibility built in: the itinerary specifically notes that those wishing to rest their legs can take a taxi from Melide to Arzúa rather than completing the final section on foot.

Walking today: Approx. 30 km
Elevation gain: Approx. 900 metres
Walking time: Up to 10 hours

🛏️ Accommodation: Duerming Villa de Arzua or similar

🍽️ Meals: Breakfast & Lunch

Today brings some of the most beautiful scenery of the entire Camino as you continue from Arzúa towards O Pedrouzo.

Early in the walk, the trail splits. Take the quieter path through shady forest and spend much of the day walking through peaceful woodland, passing small villages and farms along the way.

There are plenty of cafés and restaurants where you can stop, refuel and enjoy the rhythm of Camino life.

As you approach O Pedrouzo, pass the Fountain of Santa Irene, whose waters were traditionally believed to cure illnesses in children and diseases affecting crops.

Tonight, settle into O Pedrouzo knowing there is now just one final walking day between you and Santiago de Compostela.

Walking today: Approx. 23 km
Elevation gain: Approx. 940 metres
Walking time: Up to 8 hours

🛏️ Accommodation: Albergue O Burgo or similar

🍽️ Meals: Breakfast

Today is the day! Set out from O Pedrouzo for your final walk into Santiago de Compostela, with every step bringing you closer to the cathedral and the completion of your Camino.

Begin through dense green forest, with no cars or houses around — a peaceful opportunity to reflect on everything you’ve achieved over the past week. Continue via Lavacolla and Monte do Gozo before the countryside gradually gives way to the city for your final 5 km.

Then comes the moment you’ve been waiting for: walking into Santiago de Compostela and arriving at the cathedral, accompanied by the sounds of traditional Galician bagpipes.

Present your stamped Pilgrim’s Passport to receive your Camino certificate, recognising that you have walked the final 100 km to Santiago. Depending on your arrival time, you may also have the opportunity to attend the pilgrims’ mass.

Later, visit the Museum of Pilgrimage before coming together one final time for an included farewell dinner.

After more than 100 kilometres on foot, tonight is about celebrating what you’ve accomplished — you walked the Camino!

Walking today: Approx. 23 km
Elevation gain: Approx. 720 metres
Walking time: Up to approximately 7½ hours

🛏️ Accommodation: Hotel Alda San Carlos or similar

🍽️ Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

After breakfast this morning, your Camino adventure officially comes to an end.

After more than 100 kilometres of walking, countless steps and an incredible week shared with your fellow travellers, it’s time to say goodbye to Santiago de Compostela and begin your journey home.

An individual airport departure transfer is included for your onward journey.

If you’re not quite ready to leave, you may also choose to extend your stay in Santiago — any additional arrangements should be organised in advance.

You came to walk the Camino. Now you leave having done it.

BEFORE YOU BOOK (FAQ)

Everything You Need to Know

Planning your Camino adventure? Here are the answers to some of the questions we’re asked most often, so you can book with confidence.

Absolutely. In fact, most of our Ladies Who Travel guests join on their own.

Travelling solo doesn’t mean travelling alone. From the moment you join the group, you’ll be travelling alongside a welcoming community of like-minded women who share your love of adventure. Many of our travellers tell us the friendships they make become one of the highlights of their journey.

If you’d like to share a room, we’ll carefully match you with another Ladies Who Travel member who is also travelling solo. Prefer your own space? You’re welcome to upgrade to a private room (subject to availability and the applicable single supplement).

Whether you arrive knowing no one or bring a friend along, you’ll be warmly welcomed from day one.

You don’t need to be an athlete, but you do need a reasonable level of fitness and be prepared for several consecutive days of long-distance walking.

Walking days range from approximately 23–30 km and can take up to 8–10 hours, with hills and uneven terrain along the way.

The Camino is absolutely achievable for many women, but preparation will make the experience much more enjoyable.

The walking portion begins on Day 3 and covers the final 100+ km of the Camino de Santiago.

Most days involve approximately 23–30 km of walking, with the longest day being around 30 km from Palas de Rei to Arzúa.

You’ll have an experienced local leader with you throughout the walk.

Yes, we strongly recommend it.

The best preparation is simply walking regularly and gradually increasing your distance in the months leading up to departure. You’ll also want to practise walking on consecutive days, rather than only doing one long walk each week.

Most importantly, train in the shoes you intend to wear on the Camino — this is not the trip for breaking in a new pair!

Accommodation is in comfortable, locally based hotels and similar properties along the Camino.

The properties vary from place to place and are generally simple rather than luxurious — this journey is about experiencing the Camino rather than five-star accommodation. A limited number of single supplements may also be available for those who prefer their own room.

Your main luggage will be transported between overnight stops, so you won’t need to carry a large suitcase or backpack while walking.

You’ll simply carry a daypack with the things you’ll need during the day — water, snacks, rain protection, sunscreen and personal essentials.

Comfortable, supportive and well-worn-in walking footwear is essential.

Whether you prefer hiking boots, trail shoes or walking shoes is largely personal preference, but make sure you’ve completed plenty of training walks in them before departure.

We strongly recommend bringing good-quality walking socks too — happy feet will make a big difference on the Camino!

Don’t panic. While you should book this trip intending and preparing to complete the walks, there may be times when you need to listen to your body.

For example, on the longest walking day, the itinerary specifically provides the option of taking a taxi from Melide to Arzúa if you need to give your legs a rest. Any additional transport would generally be at your own expense.

Your local leader will also be there to provide guidance along the way.

Yes! One of the most special moments of the journey comes when you arrive in Santiago de Compostela.

After walking the required distance and collecting your stamps along the way, you’ll present your stamped Pilgrim’s Passport and receive your Camino certificate recognising that you’ve walked the final 100 km to Santiago.

Your Pilgrim’s Passport (Credencial) records your journey along the Camino.

You’ll collect yours in Sarria before you begin walking and have it stamped along the route — the itinerary calls for stamps at least twice each day.

At the end of the journey, your completed passport provides the record of your Camino.

Visa and entry requirements depend on the passport you’re travelling on and can change before departure.

We’ll provide general information closer to the trip, but it remains each traveller’s responsibility to ensure they meet the passport, visa and entry requirements applicable to them..

Galicia’s weather can be changeable in March, so you’ll need to be prepared for a mixture of conditions.

Expect cool temperatures and the possibility of rain, along with some lovely walking weather. Layers are your friend — you’ll want clothing you can easily add or remove as conditions change throughout the day.

A good waterproof jacket is essential.

Comfort and practicality are key.

You’ll want well-worn walking shoes, comfortable walking clothes, layers, a waterproof jacket, good walking socks, a small daypack, reusable water bottle, sun protection and any personal walking essentials.

We’ll provide more detailed packing information before departure, so you don’t need to have everything figured out when you book.

Because this is a walking journey and luggage needs to be transferred between accommodation along the route, we recommend packing light.

Yes. Comprehensive travel insurance is a condition of joining this tour.

Travel insurance provides peace of mind should the unexpected happen, including medical emergencies, cancellations, lost luggage or travel delays. We strongly recommend purchasing your policy as soon as you’ve confirmed your booking so you’re covered before you depart.

If you need assistance choosing a policy, we’re happy to point you in the right direction.

Absolutely! We can assist with flights, additional hotel stays and even extending your holiday.

Whether you’d like to arrive early, stay on after the tour, or continue exploring another destination, we’re happy to help tailor your travel plans. As a full-service travel business, we can assist with flights, accommodation, travel insurance and additional arrangements, making your entire journey as seamless as possible.

Everything you need will be available in your personal itinerary app.

Before departure, you’ll receive access to your digital itinerary, where you’ll find your daily schedule, hotel details, flight information (if booked through us), maps, important documents and other helpful travel information. It’s all conveniently stored on your phone, making it easy to access throughout your journey.

If you need assistance choosing a policy, we’re happy to point you in the right direction.

Yes! One of the best parts of travelling with Ladies Who Travel is that the friendships often begin long before the trip does.

Every tour has its own private Facebook group where you can introduce yourself, ask questions, share your excitement and get to know the other ladies travelling with you. By departure day, many of our travellers already feel like they’re meeting friends rather than strangers.

Definitely. We don’t just send you off with an itinerary—we help you prepare for the adventure.

In the lead-up to departure, we’ll hold online group catch-ups where we’ll talk through the itinerary, discuss packing, answer questions and share helpful travel tips. It’s also another wonderful opportunity to get to know your fellow travellers before the journey begins.

We’ll have a dedicated WhatsApp group for the duration of the trip.

It’s a simple way to share updates, meeting times, photos and useful information throughout the journey. It also makes it easy for everyone to stay connected, whether you’ve gone for an early morning walk, are relaxing at the hotel or simply want to share a great photo from the day.

This exclusive Ladies Who Travel departure is operated by Intrepid and led by their experienced English-speaking local guides, who will accompany you throughout the journey. Their deep local knowledge and passion for the destination ensure an authentic and enriching travel experience.

While Melissa won’t be travelling on this departure, you’ll still be part of an exclusive Ladies Who Travel group, giving you the opportunity to travel with like-minded women in a welcoming and supportive environment.

A PERSONAL NOTE

Welcome to the
Ladies Who Travel Family

When I created Ladies Who Travel, my dream wasn’t simply to organise incredible holidays. It was to create a place where women could explore the world with confidence, make genuine friendships and feel like they truly belonged.

Every journey we take together reminds me why I started this community. Watching complete strangers become lifelong friends, seeing ladies achieve travel dreams they never thought possible, and sharing unforgettable moments together is the most rewarding part of what I do.

Whether this is your very first Ladies Who Travel adventure or one of many, I’d love to welcome you along. I have a feeling this is going to be one of those journeys we’ll all be talking about for years to come.

Founder, Ladies Who Travel

Adventure is Better When It’s Shared

Somewhere along this journey, you’ll find yourself walking through the beautiful Galician countryside, stopping for coffee in a tiny village, encouraging someone through a tough stretch or laughing together over tired feet at the end of a long day.

And that’s the part I love most about travelling with Ladies Who Travel.

Walking the Camino is an incredible achievement, but I think sharing it with other women will make it even more special. You’ll start as a group of women taking on a challenge together, and by the time you walk those final kilometres into Santiago de Compostela, I have a feeling there’ll be plenty of laughter, shared stories, proud moments and new friendships coming home with you too.

I hope you’ll join us.
