Start the day with a visit to one of Cape Town’s most iconic landmarks: Table Mountain. Ride the cable car to the summit (weather permitting) and take in sweeping views of the city, coastline and the dramatic Cape Peninsula. Wander along the mountain’s walking paths to appreciate the unique flora of the Cape Floral Kingdom.

You’ll then drive along the peninsula and see the many natural highlights of the area before retracing 350 years of Cape Town’s history on a two-hour walking tour of the city. We visit this community, confined to the slopes of Signal Hill, called the Bo-Kaap, or Cape Malay area.

Begin with a Walking Tour of the Historic, Heritage Protected area of cobbled streets, colourful Cape Georgian and Cape Dutch homes, community corner stores that stock everything, and several mosques dating from 1795 to 1958.

We then visit our hostess, a local resident, for an exciting encounter with her religious, cultural, and culinary background- in her home! You will participate in preparing and cooking samoosas, Rooti (flatbread), and chicken or vegetable curry in the kitchen around her table.

Later, make your way to the V&A Waterfront to board the ferry to Robben Island (weather permitting) a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Led by knowledgeable local guides — often former political prisoners — you’ll visit the prison grounds and see the cell where Nelson Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years in captivity. It’s a powerful, reflective experience that offers deep insight into South Africa’s history and resilience.

Set out on a spectacular full-day journey around the iconic Cape Peninsula, where dramatic coastlines, charming seaside villages, and unique wildlife encounters come together in one unforgettable experience.

Your day begins with a scenic drive along the Atlantic Seaboard, passing through the vibrant coastal suburbs of Camps Bay and Llandudno en route to the picturesque fishing village of Hout Bay. Here, you can soak in the harbour views, browse local craft markets, or opt for a boat trip to see the Cape fur seal colony on Duiker Island.

Continue along the legendary Chapman’s Peak Drive, widely regarded as one of the most breathtaking marine drives in the world. This winding cliff-hugging route offers endless photo opportunities, with sheer drops to the ocean below and panoramic views across the Atlantic.

The journey then leads into the protected wilderness of the Cape Point Nature Reserve, part of the Table Mountain National Park. Explore the rugged landscapes of Cape Point and the historic Cape of Good Hope, where towering cliffs meet the crashing waves of the Atlantic Ocean. Keep an eye out for local wildlife, including baboons, ostriches, and antelope that roam freely through the reserve.

Afterwards, travel along the False Bay coastline to the charming naval town of Simon’s Town, home to the famous African penguin colony at Boulders Beach. Wander along the wooden boardwalks for close-up views of these endearing birds in their natural habitat, or relax on the sheltered beaches with their distinctive granite boulders and crystal-clear waters.

Return to Cape Town in the late afternoon, having experienced one of the most scenic and diverse coastal routes in the world.

After, visit the Groot Drakenstein prison where Nelson Mandela was released in February 1990.

Then, it’s into the hills to Franschhoek. The view of the valley from here is lined with rows of manicured vineyards. Soak up the scenery and enjoy a glass of the region’s finest from Rickety Bridge in the La Cabriere Estate.

Travel is always an adventure — and sometimes the unexpected becomes part of the story.

While every effort is made to ensure your journey runs smoothly, travel can occasionally involve changes, delays or unexpected situations beyond anyone’s control. That’s especially true on more unique and meaningful journeys like this one, where part of the magic comes from stepping a little outside the ordinary.

This Ladies Who Travel experience has been carefully designed to offer a supportive, memorable, and authentic journey, guided by experienced local experts who know the destination intimately and are adept at adapting as needed along the way.

We do ask our ladies to travel with a spirit of flexibility, patience and adventure. Sometimes the moments that don’t go exactly to plan become the memories and stories we treasure most later on.

If anything unexpected does arise during the trip, please raise it with your local guide or the LWT team as soon as possible so we can do our very best to assist and minimise any impact on your experience.

At Ladies Who Travel, we believe the most rewarding journeys are often the ones that take us a little beyond our comfort zone — creating connection, confidence, unforgettable memories and experiences far removed from everyday life.
